Fleers Return to Basketball

Fleer returns to basketball
Fleer's return to the basketball card industry after a 25-year hiatus. This 132-card standard-size marks what is considered to be the beginning of the modern era of basketball cards. The cards were issued in 12-card wax packs (11 cards plus a sticker) that retailed for 50 cents. Wax boxes consisted of 36 packs. A stick of gum was also included in each pack. The set is checklisted alphabetically by the player's last name. Since only the Star Company had been issuing basketball cards nationally since 1983, most of the players in this Fleer set already had cards which are considered Extended Rookie Cards. However, since this Fleer set was the first nationally distributed through wax packs since the 1981-82 Topps issue, most of the players in the set are considered Rookie Cards including Michael Jordan. Other Rookie Cards, of those that had Star Company cards include Charles Barkley, Clyde Drexler, Patrick Ewing, Hakeem Olajuwon, Isiah Thomas and Dominique Wilkins. Rookie Cards of those that did not previously appear in a set include Joe Dumars, Karl Malone, Chris Mullin and Charles Oakley. Red, white and blue borders surround a color photo that contains a Fleer "Premier" logo in an upper corner. The card backs are printed in red and blue on white card stock. Several cards have "Traded" notations on them if the player was traded subsequent to the photo selection process. It's important to note that some of the more expensive cards in this set (especially Michael Jordan) have been counterfeited in the past few years. Checking key detailed printing areas such as the "Fleer Premier" logo on the front and the players' association logo on the back under eight or ten power magnification usually detects the legitimate from the counterfeits. The cards are condition sensitive due to dark borders and centering problems.see some cards...Click Here!

1986-87 Fleer Basketball Cards Every Fan Should Own Them

Try making a nice run of Michael Jordan Fleer cards, starting with the rookie and then move on up, there also some nice odd ball cards that should add nice conversational pieces, one of my favorites is the 1996 Topps Embossed Basketball Michael Jordan card, sporting the jersey #18. Nice piece, one to have graded for sure. These have many flaws, so to have a BGS 9.5, or PSA 10 would be noteworthy. The recession might be the right time to start collecting some of the autographed cards that he has signed, I would even try selling some less desirable cards to obtain these. Most of these, depending on the limited amount go for $600.00, those that are not numbered go for about $180.00 to about $250.00

Collecting most of the 132 cards from the 1986 fleer basket ball
set has become many a true NBA fans passion.Michael Jordan wasn't
the only "Mega Star"of this era twas Bird,Magic,Kareem,Drexler,
Barkley, Dr.J, Dominique and many others. Collecting these players cards can be inexpensive and fun....Click Here!

Michael Jordan Creating His Legend !!

Michael Jordan was part of the "Big Three", that kept NBA basketball going. I can't remember them all, but I want to say it was Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, and possibly Larry Bird. I could be wrong, but I believe that was the talk back then in the 1980's.
For me as a collector, and I was a huge L.A. Lakers fan, clearly it was Michael Jordan. Fleer Basketball cards, are the corner stone of any Michael Jordan collection, especially in the last 7 years where Star Company basketball cards became non-gradable by most of the legitimate card companies. Counterfeiting was the main reason for the lack of Star Company basketball cards being graded, although I have seen a resurgence of PSA graded Star Company basketball cards of late.

If you wanted to stay on the safe side, I recommend the Fleer Basketball cards and Michael Jordan, the 1986-87 Fleer Michael Jordan rookie card has become the formidable one, putting away 10 of these for a rainy day would be nice, if you can afford graded even better, don't try going lower than an PSA or BGS 8.Getting
in on these great cards on the low end of the scale with lesser known players is the way to go at .99cents to start try.Click Here!
